Highlights: Waves Original Cocktails, Funky Décor, Rooftop Patio, Duck Bao Buns, Sweet Potato Fries.
Braving the “polar vortex” that is the weather these days, a group of us ventured to Waves at Novotel Al Bustan last week. We couldn’t muster the courage to sit outside even though the rooftop patio was calling us. We settled inside, which has cool décor including a “gin wall’, vertical garden and lots of hanging Edison bulbs.
We ordered drinks from the ‘Waves Original’ cocktail menu. A Very Berry, Passion Spice, and a Going Coco. Both the Very Berry and Passion Spice came with crushed ice, an absolute must for me when it comes to my favorite cocktails. The Very Berry was delicious, not too sweet and heavy on the berry flavor and the Passion Spice was tangy enough to balance the heat. The Going Coco was yummy and will be perfect for when the weather warms up!
The menu is varied with lots of bar snacky type items, like mac & cheese balls, garlic parm wings, beef sliders, and quesadillas. They have a dedicated bao menu. We ordered the Crispy Duck baos, which came with a ‘sauce your own pipette’ and black gloves if you think you’re going to get messy! The buns were really good, nice and pillowy soft with classic duck flavors of hoisin and leek inside. There is a nightly DJ, which brings a nice vibe to the space. Watch out for the quirky quotes on the walls!
