Vakava is such a great addition to the restaurant scene in Abu Dhabi. Need to give it a few more tries but based on first impressions it feels like we have a worthy competitor for Coya in the Latin cuisine category.

After the abrupt shutdown of Toro Toro, VaKaVa from the same group opens at the same spot at the Jumeriah at Etihad Towers. The restaurant is beautiful...very tastefully done across two levels. We were there for dinner Thursday night with a few friends. Nice vibe to the place with live music followed by DJ on the upper level.

The drinks trolley is a cool concept and let’s you see cocktails mixed up and close. The caipirinhas are a must try. They only use cachaça! We loved the one with passion fruit...very refreshing.

We tried the smoky guacamole, salmon ceviche, tuna tataki, soft shell crab taco, chicken taco, spicy salmon rocoto with chaufa quinoa and sweet potato fries. Almost everything we ate was very fresh and bursting with flavor. Just felt that the chicken taco wasn’t up to the same standard as the other dishes we had. We never skip tres leches if we see it in a dessert menu. Unfortunately this was gone before I took a pic 🙂 We also tried the chocolate fondant. The desserts were pretty good as well! Service was pleasant and attentive.

Excellent first impressions.
