Marriott Hotel, Al Forsan.
Seems to be the week for The Grill reviews so here is another one! Lovely welcome from doorman at hotel who escorted us to the restaurant. Very helpful and attentive staff. Some staff need more training and experience but we all started somewhere in our careers! Overall, the service was very good.
Liked the decor and restaurant layout with various options on table style and seating.
Good menu with plenty of meat and seafood choices and a couple of vegetarian options. Nice touches on the table, especially the Himalayan pink salt with the mini grater and proper steak knives!
Lamb kofta kebab with the creamy tahini sauce starter was very good. Australian rump steak for mains was divine and well-priced (relative to other AD hotel steak restaurants).
Wonderful grilled portobello mushrooms served on an iron skillet. Truffle butter was yummy. Some very interesting and funky mustard options. But this was the show stopper... the lamb chops, best lamb chops I have tasted anywhere for a long time .. absolutely awesome. Sweet potato mash was disappointing, too much added sugar, overly sweet. The chocolate molten lava cake to round things off hit the spot.
Turkish chef, came to table, lovely guy and told me he sources his lamb from Iran. Go Iran! Good grape list with plenty of reasonably priced options (again relative to other hotel restaurants in AD). 20% discount on bill for local residents (not sure the qualification for this but someone said, living within 2 miles). The bill was very reasonable compared to similar places and the food was very good.
