UZBEK food! I come here for the manti. And it never disappoints. Since Panda Baobao doesn't have real xiaolongbao, it left me with an unsatisfied dumpling craving, and I remembered this restaurant having the most delicious lamb filled dumplings. We used to come here quite a lot, and it's one of our favorites. All of their food is delicious, and it really tastes like home cooking. To me, Uzbek cuisine is like a mix of Chinese and Russian. So if you like Russian food, give Sayhoun a visit.
This time we also ordered a meat dumpling soup, beet salad, herring in fur coat (my Russian coworker used to feed this to us as a dare, and I ended up loving it), and samsa (lamb filled pastry). I really like their samsa and herring salad. Their uzbek plov is also really good, as is their borscht and lagman (lamb noodle soup). Prices are also amazing. We always order a feast, and it's never more than 100dhs for two people.
The restaurant is in an upstairs room. It's cozy but dark, and filled with Uzbek trinkets all over the walls. I don't know how big of an Uzbek community there is in Abu Dhabi, but it looks like they all end up here. It feels like it's their community center.
