Just came back stuffed from one of the best dinners I have had in a long time, and definitely best value for money!!!
Saravanaa Bhavan is an all vegetarian (over 150 items on the menu!) Indian restaurant that serves some of the best Indian I've had in Abu Dhabi, with very friendly speedy service, and with most mains costing around 10 dirhams!
As a vegetarian this restaurant felt like nirvana not having to scour for the few veggie options or annoyingly asking for substitutions, but the best part for me was that the four other carnivores at the table didn't miss the meat at all and all came away as satisfied as me!
I highly recommend the Gobi-65: the meatiest, tender, flavoursome little deep fried nuggets of cauliflower goodness, like a vegetarian version of buffalo chicken bites almost! 😍
For mains we shared some mouth watering dosas that were astronomically sized as large as my arm span, that were served with a lovely variety of curries and chutneys. The slightly sour flavoring of the dosa with the warm spicy hidden treasure of mashed potatoes inside were spot on and authentic, and you can also stray from the traditional path, like with the spicy paneer dosa- can't decide between the traditional masala dosa, ghee roasted dosa, or paneer dosa which one I liked the best! We also tried the parrota- this soft buttery pull apart bread similar to paratha, served with a curry and the best raita I've had ever, let alone in Abu Dhabi.
I didn't get a chance to try the poori masala, but next time I go it's on my to do list: instagram worthy puffs of pastry as big as your head!!
The total bill for 2 appetizers, drinks and 4 mains came to 70 dirhams... cheapest restaurant meal I've had in ages, and for twice as many people 😯
Definitely a must do, would be cool to bring visitors to as well for something different and to visit the souk :)
Sorry no photos of the Gobi 65- we inhaled them in about two minutes flat 😂
