Jumeriah at Etihad Towers.
I was invited to try this newly launched afternoon tea and since the kids and I are sans daddy this weekend, I thought it might be nice to go. To be honest, I'm never sure about afternoon teas because I wonder how they can produce enough for you to 'get your money's worth'. But this, this is worth paying for. The view is nothing short of stupendous, stretching out across the palaces, down the Corniche, on a good day over to the Aldar building. The food in this new Paris afternoon tea matches it. They didn't bring the usual sandwiches because they brought a special plate for the kids: jam, Nutella, ham and cheese, chicken, all in gorgeous, innovative shapes and sizes. The sweets were superb: the usual macaroons but with a twist, light choux buns with delectable lemon creme, rich eclairs, cookies and mille feuilles: all absolutely delicious. The pièce de resistance was the scones. Light, not overloaded with baking powder, and topped with clotted cream, berry ham or lemon curd. I could've eaten ten. This afternoon tea includes champagne and fabulous iced tea, all beautifully presented and served by excellent staff. This isn't a cheap tea, make no mistake, but when you have guests, or fancy a treat, it's just such a great thing to do.
