My first review on here, thought it just had to be done! Be gentle, folks 🙂
The Oak Room at the new Abu Dhabi Edition Hotel in Al Bateen ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Walking into the new hotel is a wow moment in itself, as the entire property is literally laden with real candles. There’s a very intimate feel to the property due to its really well designed lighting and interiors. The restaurant itself doesn’t have a sign, just a discreet hostess desk where they warmly welcome you and escort you through gigantic wooden swinging doors and to another level of upscale dining. Think Butcher and Still, but more romantic.
The best parts for me were the live butchery (they display and cut your steaks to order there, situated within the dining area) and meat sommelier Charlie, who was just a joy to speak with! On top of the fantastic meat options (including dry-aged and interesting secondary cuts such as flank and Wagyu Picanha), the sommelier offered a personally curated list of wines by Coravin (for those who don’t know it’s a tool used to serve wine through a cork without opening the bottle hence preserving freshness of the wine).
We ordered the Black Onyx Tenderloin Fillet, 250g and 18h braised short rib with onion tatin with sides of green beans, mash and red wine sauce. Delicious and really sharp and warm service to match.
They also presented a beautiful wooden box of steak knives to choose your knife for the evening. Just beautiful. We spent about 450 for each of us for heavy mains with sides and 2 glasses each of wine. FYI they do this amazing crusty bread in the beginning with a marmite butter. My first time trying marmite and it did not disappoint!
After dinner, they invited us to the bar opposite to the restaurant (1st pic) for after-dinner gin cocktails served by a skilled bartender on a gueridon bar. Classy x 1000!
