MARE MARE JUMEIRAH AT SAADIYAT ISLAND RESORT
Incredible sea view ✅ Superb drinks ✅ Stacks of seafood ✅ Gourmet pizzas ✅ Dreamy desserts ✅
A stone’s throw from the sea, poolside, Mare Mare is already a restaurant to be reckoned with in Abu Dhabi. It’s entirely outdoors, making it the place to be right now.
The menu is heavy on seafood but there’s a lot to tempt those who aren’t lovers of fish - and do yourselves a favour: leap out of your comfort zone and try something new. You’ll thank me later 🙂
We started with the most innovative of dishes: raw red prawns, paired with delicate mayonnaise, creamy burrata with heirloom tomatoes (these tasty little numbers are my new best friend), the beef tartare (ooh la la!) and our favourite, the tuna with avocado and a squid ink lace. Oh and the vitello (veal)! Everything was light, perfectly seasoned and flavours well-paired.
And on with the show ... It’s truffle month at Mare Mare, and Chef Simone treated us to a giant raviolone with ricotta and spinach, with lashings of grated truffle, and cut open to reveal a soft egg center. What a dish!
From the superb homemade tonnarelli pasta with the most succulent of lobsters, to the best cotoletta of veal Milanese, the mains were also excellent. We loved the fragole frutti di mare, which tasted better than what we’d had in Sardinia!
Desserts were also excellent with a couple of stand outs: the tortino shone like a beacon in the chocolate lovers night sky and the tiramisu was beyond luscious. We enjoyed the sausagey length of semi freddo and, (not to forget the cannoli Clemenza) the real cannoli Siciliani, full of creamy ricotta, candied fruit and dark chocolate bits.
To eat at Mare Mare, is to be transported to a luxurious Italian seaside ristorante: you really do feel like you’re on holiday. Chef Simone is a chef of the people: friendly, happy to chat, share his thoughts and hear yours. Fausto, the restaurant manager is absolutely outstanding in his knowledge and ability to make you feel at home. I can’t praise this little blue oasis highly enough. There are truly high end dishes but also enough under AED100 to suit those who wish to spend less. And even if you go and have a basil infused gin and tonic and a pizza or a plate of cannoli, just go. Treat yourself. It’s worth it. #invited
