Rachael and I finally got to share this quaint, family-run Indian restaurant with Cody and Rebecca after promising to take them after our first visit in July.
Don’t be put off by its vegetarian cuisine - one of the best things about GS is that it forces you to try new dishes that you perhaps wouldn't typically choose over your usual 'butter chicken and korma' order. Take the Sarson Ka Saag, for example, a delicious seasonal dish made purely with mustard greens and spices. Served with makki di roti (corn roti), you can just ditch your fork and tuck right in - it's divine. The Dahi Bhalla, a light dish of dumplings served in yoghurt with sweet tamarind and other chutneys, also made a brief appearance before being devoured by us all. Other favourites of the night were the little pockets of Pani Puri and the Paneer Kurkure. Saving the best to last, we all agreed that the Gulab Jamun was hands down the best we've had in the city.
But what's most special about Golden Spoon? The family behind the show. On any given night, you may find the father behind the till, greeting guests and taking orders, Sahil managing the restaurant with a friendly smile or the Mum on her way out after tasting all of the dishes of the day, despite the kitchen running like a well-oiled machine since it's opening in 1993.
Give it a go! We’re sure you’ll agree.
