Chhappan Bhog

Teresa Doherty

So last night I went for the Iftar which I won at Chhappan Bhog at the World Trade Centre. Before getting any food I said I was going to take pictures however I completely forgot (except for the one below). I have to say this place is a hidden gem. A fully vegetarian Indian but you do not miss the meat. The Iftar is quite small and you have to head slightly out of the restaurant to get to the buffet but that’s fine. The staff were amazing. There was initially some lack of understanding when I mentioned I’d won the prize but after a few minutes everything was sorted. They offered either al a carte menu or the iftar. They recommended the Iftar to us as there was more chance to taste more things. We got our food which consisted of dhal, spicy potatoes, some lovely vegetable curries and a curry which had what can only be described as a “barmcake” (I’m from Manchester, it’s what we call a bread roll) with it. The manager then came over and offered us naan bread (hot and crispy with lots of garlic - it was delicious) and some drinks. They then bought a few plates of food which weren’t on the buffet but the chef had made. They were all cold but absolutely delicious. I’m not sure if they were meant to accompany the curries or if they were desserts but either way they went down a treat. I think the Iftar menu is around 50aed pp so it’s an absolute steal. I will definitely be going back and would fully recommend it to both my vegetarian and non-vegetarian friends.
