Having so often utilized BB reviews and directories, I feel compelled to return the favour and share the love! Last night’s (date-night) South African BBQ was just 👌
First off, the location is just fab- up on the 27th floor, poolside, with great views of the Abu Dhabi skyline. You get a whiff of yummy BBQ as you walk out onto the terrace, and the night-lit pool and checkered tablecloths add to the great feel. Start to finish service was excellent. There were so many small touches that set this essentially laid-back evening brunch apart from some of its competitors. We loved, for example, having the choice of beer, wine (nice Malbec) And cocktails (mojitos or margaritas) in the drinks package, and enjoyed being surprised by the bartender bringing us little concoctions to try (think mint tasting baileys but yummier)!😂 The vibe was laid-back and the ambience was good- I actually Really liked the music- I only gave 3 stars because it just wasn’t that busy (unfortunately).
Anyway, the food was fantastic. Everything was purposeful. A selection of olives and S African jerky (my husband seemed particularly enamoured by this (?!), a great variously-stuffed fresh bread station to tempt anyone attempting to go low-carb off track, and a really good salad section that included potato salad, Greek salad, coleslaw, beet and feta salad, and roasted peppers. It may not have looked extensive, but everything was thought out and purposeful. In fact that was the word that kept returning to me when I thought about the bbq. Everything was there for a reason; the flavoured salts and variety of mustards for the meats; the peri peri and other hot sauces and various South African sides and accompaniments; the white polenta pat (Sp?) that looked like mashed potato; the DELICIOUS bobotie (like a slightly sweet mince with a little egg and cheese on top); the hollowed out bread buns to hold the lamb stew, and of course lots of Meat to be BBQed- pinwheeled 🇿🇦 sausages, lamb chops, chicken and various steaks.
Even dessert was more than just the pretty looking but often tasteless little ubiquitous bites of mouse and cake squares, with mini eclairs, more South African hot and yummy delicacies, and a rather fantastic ice cream (I typically skip dessert!) So yes, again Purposeful, and very much with more than just a superficial nod to the South African theme and flavour.
To top it all off, we got to enjoy the Chinese New Year fireworks, as the manager gave everyone advanced notice, and those interested were led through the gym to enjoy the view:) I wish my pictures did better justice to the place- it’s so hard when it’s dark- but I think you get the idea:)
Finally, yes this place enjoys a B.B. discout🙌
